Aguinaldo Wins BT Open

Jerry Aguinaldo pulled off an upset to win the season openng Bill Thompson Open at San Jose Municipal Golf Course on Saturday as the Crocker Golf Association kicked off its 64th season.  Aguinaldo edged out Rod Petrieanos in a scorecard playoff.

Both players finished the eighteen hole event with net 67’s. Aguinaldo had a lower score on hole number two thus capturing the championship.

Rick Merz finished two behind for third place with a 69. Jon Vinh took fourth with a respectable 70.

Other winners included guests Randy Walker and Ramon Shackleford. Walker was closest to the pin on Hole 4. Shackleford was closest on number 17.

There was a three way tie for fewest putts between Doug Carr, Petrianos and Shackleford. Each had thirty one putts. The four players shared a pool of $125.00.

Steve Reas was presented with the Player-of- the- Year trophy for the 2009 season. Reas who was the favorite to win the BT Open finished in sixth place with 72. He and Petrianos had low rounds of the day with a pair of 79’s.

Mike Tryforos finished just ahead of Reas for fifth place with a 71.

Other notable scores included Chris Tryforos 72 and Andy Tryforos with a 74. Tim Mohr’s 75 and Miles Wigglesworth 76 rounded out the top ten finishers.

The next Crocker event will be held April 17 at the beautiful Franklin Canyon Golf Course in Hercules. The entry fee is $70.00. Players are encouraged to get their fees in by April 9.
